Neighborhood Guide- Beverly Hills (1)

Beverly Hills is arguably the most famous neighborhood in Southern California.  Made famous in pop culture for sprawling mansions, high end shopping, and moody teenagers, 90201 is the most well known zip code in the country.  The reality of Beverly Hills has much more to offer — from small boutique hotels to casual park courtyards and more.

There are plenty of wonderful restaurants in Beverly Hills, whether you are stopping in for a quick power lunch or settling in for a longer meal and some people watching. La Scala is a famous local restaurant and boutique founded by winemaker Jean Leon.  Celebrities and locals alike pour in to the restaurant at lunch for the incredible finely chopped salad named for Leon himself.  They also drop by during the dinner hours for delicious traditional Italian fare.

Another notable Italian restaurant in Beverly Hills is Il Pastaio.  This corner Italian restaurant that becomes the virtual “clubhouse” for local BH residents.  Choice seats are the outside sidewalk tables allowing diners to see everyone that passes on Canon Drive.  These outdoor seats are ideal for people watching and celeb spotting.

The Grill is the popular choice for  heavy hitting Hollywood agents, studio heads, and actors meeting for a power lunch.  The restaurant is tucked away on an alley off Rodeo Drive.  Pair your meal with one of their many hand crafted martinis or classic highballs.

The new park courtyard of Montage Hotel has become a city center for gathering, reading, sharing coffee and small concerts.  The atmosphere is much like the small parks in European cities where locals gather to relax and visit, which is a welcome change from the hustle and bustle of LA.

Speaking of hotels, the new Waldorf Astoria Hotel is set to open in 2017.  The hotel is located next to the Beverly Hilton and will include 170 rooms, some of which may be rented out as private residences — complete with 5-star amenities.

Downtown Beverly Hills also has a small assortment of lovely boutique hotels that are off the beaten path, but which offer comfortable luxury without over-the-top cost.  You can expect them to be much quieter than the large resort hotels that are more widely known  If this quiet stay is more your speed, check out Maison 140, Hotel Mosaic, Crescent Hotel or Avalon Hotel.
